Missing vital eye tests

About 500,000 diabetics could be risking their sight by missing out on the correct eye test. Last year, a quarter of the 2million sufferers in Britain did not get tested with a digital camera, which can spot retinal damage - the leading cause of blindness. 100 out of 152 NHS trusts are failing to live up to targets on screening. Half-a-million people are still not having their eyes checked using a digital camera. The tragedy is blindness can be prevented in 90 per cent of these cases. The Department of Health said 93.5 per cent of people were offered the special test last year.
